Smacked Myself Silly This Morning

Which is why this post is late.

I was on my way out the door to lock the dogs in their kennel for the day, when my foot slipped on the top step (there are four steep steps) and I bumped, slid, fell down the rest. Cracking my head way too hard on the top step and again on one of the others, although that spot didn't swell so bad.

I didn't lose consciousness, but it stunned me stupid and for a minute I couldn't get anything to move.

The funny thing is I heard my head hit, heard a sharp crack- or at least it sounded sharp. Felt the vibration all the way down my neck and shoulders and into my lower back. But it didn't hurt. It didn't hurt at all. In fact nothing hurt. Not one thing.

At first I thought I must not have hit my head after all, because it would hurt, right? I mean think how much it hurts it you smack it on the cupboard or something? But when I felt the area that had hit, there was a huge lump, and getting bigger the more I felt around. I put ice on it, and it stopped swelling up, but it spread out instead.

Which is when I got scared. I went to the E.R. Where they took a picture of my hard head. I asked the tech to let me know if they say a bunch of strange people lurking around inside there.

hahahahahhahahha

The tech just gave me a blank look. Sigh. I guess writing jokes don’t transfer.

Other damage from the fall.

Dislocated pinky finger, which is splinted and annoying.
Bruised shoulder and arm.
I didn’t hit my elbow though, which seemed odd
The muscles of my shoulders, neck and back are very sore and stiff.
And my butt hurts. A lot.

They gave me a huge list of potential problems to look out for and if I have any of those symptoms I am supposed to get back to the E.R. ASAP.

After spending about four hours in the Emergency room, I went in to work. Mainly because the doctor kept going on and on about having someone to observe me for the next few hours. But when I got into the office, I found all our computers were under attack by a computer virus.

Yeah, I should have just stayed in bed.

  1. I hope you didn't have a concussion. Otherwise it sounds as though you'll heal soon.

    Take care of yourself!

  2. The discharge papers say mild concussion. But I think they have to say that anytime there is swelling to the soft tissue of the head. I didn't have any of the symptoms he listed. Other than periodic dizziness, but I've had that since I got hit by the virus in my inner ear. And since the dizziness was exactly of the same variety and length as what I've had since Christmas, he said he was confident it was because of my inner ear.
Other than the soreness, I got off pretty light.

Although I’m sure not looking forward to trying to sleep tonight.

  3. OMG, this is awful, Trish. Do take it easy, okay? Have they got you on painkillers and NSAIDs?

    Take care of yourself, girl.

  4. Oh no! I hope you feel better today, and all the swelling goes down. Keep online, m'kay? So we can keep tabs on you. And distract you from writing.

  5. Zee, he gave me a prescription for a pain killer, but I wasn't suppose to take anything for at least 24 to 36 hours. He said sometimes painkillers can cause blood to thin, and they don't want anymore bleeding under the skin, or into the brain. (which there was none of)

I don't think I am going to get the scrip filled though, I actually feel really good this morning. Sore, but not nearly as much as I expected.

  6. I think the head and yesterdays E.R. visit distracted me enough from writing. LOL

I was planning on writing last night, but ended up playing on twitter instead.

My plan is to finish revisions on my last chapter this weekend. So keep your distractions away from
